Objects of Inspiration: a Rock

A Rock

On Sunday morning Laurie was woken up at eight am by her alarm clock blasting her favorite song into her ear. ‘Ugh. Just four more weeks, just four.’ She whined when she got out of bed. After a quick shower, the girl got dressed and, having no time for a proper breakfast, just grabbed an apple before running out the door.

She rode her bike to the corner of Holland street and waited for Frank to get there. Why does this always happen to me? I run around like a crazy woman and that guy just takes his time.. Finally after a good fifteen minutes her workmate was in sight. Laurie got back on her bike and started going the opposite direction from where her friend came.

‘Hey! Hold on!’ Frank yelled, trying to catch up with her. ‘Not so fast!’ Well maybe you should get up earlier and not make me wait this long Laurie thought. ‘Could you just not once come on time? I have been waiting since forever for you!’ She told him as soon as he was in hearing distance. ‘Yeah yeah. Jeez Laur, relax. We’ll get there in time. I don’t care anyway.’ Frank said, brushing the issue off. ‘No actually, we are going to be late again and I don’t want to be the girl that is always late! Just get your act together because I do care.’ Frank looked at his friend with a blanc expression before saying: ‘Whatever’ and stopped talking to Laurie.

At work it was hot, being a coast guard was not the easiest job she ever had but it was fun and she was able to get a tan at the same time so she was not complaining. The only thing bugging her was Frank being a complete jerk to her this morning. What is wrong with that guy?.. She stared at the ocean, not really taking in what was really going on. Suddenly she felt someone knocking on one of the legs of her chair. She looked down and saw a sunburned Frank standing there with his hand on his forehead, trying to shield his eyes from the sun.

‘Well, are you going to come down here or not?’ he looked at her questioningly. She let out a sigh but decided to climb down. ‘What is wrong?’ she said rolling her eyes,  making clear she was annoyed with him. ‘Nothing is wrong. I just wanted to show you something.’ Frank held out his hand and waited for her to take it. ‘Okay fine but make it quick.’ Laurie gave in. The two of them walked for just two minutes and then he started climbing some huge rocks. He turned around, held his hands out again and helped Laurie get up too. ‘What do you want to show me, Frank? Why are you making all this effort?’ His response was simple: ‘Just turn around and you will see..’ So she did and she saw a heart shaped rock laying on the ground. She just stared at it for a bit and then whispered a small ‘thank you’ to Frank. He spoke up: ‘I am sorry for being such a jerk lately. I know I should keep myself in check. I won’t be late again and next time lunch is on me.’ Laurie smiled: ‘Apologies accepted, Franklin.’ And gave him a soft punch to his forearm. They both started laughing, Frank because she would be the only person allowed to ever call him Franklin and Laurie because she got her best friend back…

I am...

I am...

A girl with big dreams
A girl with the dream of living in America
A girl who is now fulfilling that dream
A girl who hopes this will what she hopes it would be

A girl who loves horses
A girl who has had her first riding lesson at the age of four
A girl who could cry just thinking about her love for horses
A girl who wishes she had her own

A girl who went to Austria to become a ski teacher at sixteen
A girl who likes teaching others what she loves to do
A girl that knows the ski slopes better than her own backyard
A girl that wants her kids to do the best they can

A girl who is a daughter to loving parents
A girl who is a sister to her amazing brother
A girl who has her sister as her best friend
A girl who loves her family more than her own life

I am me.
